Tangle

The “tangle” is a single surface, topologically equivalent to a sphere with 5 handles.

To understand its structure, it is better to refer to a kind of sheath around the skeleton of a cube. The points corresponding to the vertices of the cube are divided into two groups: 4 are more internal, and in each of them there are 3 yellow pipes that meet in a triangular connection; the other 4 are in a more external position, and in each of them 3 green pipes meet in a triangular junction.

I saw it for the first time in a jewel by Bathsheba Grossman.

Maria Dedò had some copies printed with a 3d printer.

The digital model is made with Blender, using a small Python script to define a control polyhedron and then applying the subdivision surfaces technique.
